Josh Tarp and The Still - Glory

Sometimes it's a trailer on TV but it's not the pictures that grab the attention, or even the comment running along. Much rather, it's the song that plays in the background ... It took me quite some time to figure this one out: Glory by Josh Tarp and The Still ~ time well worth spending as I've discovered a new-to-me band with a sound that's right up my alley ~
Bandpage provides the following brief bio:
Josh Tarp and The Still creates music that pushes the boundaries of genre stereotypes, creating a balanced pallet of folk, soul, and classic rock rounded together by constructively effortless songwriting. Since beginning this project in 2010, theirs songs have impacted a diverse and growing audience of true music lovers and easy listeners.

Bruce Springsteen The Ghost of Tom Joad live in Studio

Every year I take a road trip to clear my mind and reset my equilibrium ~ for me, there's nothing better, nothing more relaxing than driving some off-the-beaten-path road and listening to music. One such trip included driving through the night on some forgotten street, and in the early hours of the new day -long before the sun would make its appearance- 'The Ghost of Tom Joad' by Bruce Spingsteen started playing on the radio ...
Well the highway is alive tonight
But nobody's kidding nobody about where it goes ...
It wasn't a highway, and the street wasn't alive that night, but -as strange as that may sound- the song dispelled some of the lonely feeling that I hadn't been able to shake ~

Men walking 'long the railroad tracks
Going someplace, there's no going back
Highway patrol choppers coming up over the ridge
Hot soup on a campfire under the bridge

The Cranberries - Zombie

It's an eerie feeling: having a nightmare about squadrons of low-flying aircraft, shots being fired, people running and screaming ~
In your head in your head
They are fighting ...
~ then coming awake only to realize that it wasn't a dream ...

The song 'Zombie' by The Cranberries calls forth long burried memories - alas it has been on my mind for a while and won't let go ...

Another head hangs lowly
Child is slowly taken
And if violence causes the silence
Who are we mistaking

Rag'n'Bone Man - Human

When I wake up to a song that I don't know, my mind tends to latch on to words that are repeated. In the case of 'human' by 'Rag'n'Bone Man' ~ obviously ~ it were the words
I'm only human after all
Don't put your blame on me
Growing up my parents taught us that it's never about putting the blame somewhere (and they would attest to the fact that my siblings and I were world champions at placing the blame in spite of their unrelenting urging to the contrary). According to my parents, it was all about recognizing the problem and trying to find a solution so that the problem was avoided in the future, or at least remidiated. Before that background, of course, I had to hunt down the song, and the artist, and the lyrics ... and I'm so glad I did ~

Human
Rag'n'Bone Man

I'm only human
I'm only, I'm only
I'm only human, human

Maybe I'm foolish
Maybe I'm blind
Thinking I can see through this
And see what's behind

Skating Away on the Thin Ice of the New Day - Jethro Tull (HD)

YAY \ö/ ~ the weekend's here. And it's brought snowflakes along 😊 It just feels right to go 'Skating Away' with Jethro Tull. Admittedly, the song is not quite that exuberant when you look at the lyrics.
And as you cross the circle line, the ice-wall creaks behind
You're a rabbit on the run. ...
Perhaps it's because of the deeper contemplation that I keep playing it in my mind ~

Meanwhile back in the year One, when you belonged to no-one
You didn't stand a chance son, if your pants were undone.

Bruce Springsteen - Streets Of Philadelphia

It's quite amazing -and saddening- how quickly the warm, golden glow of Christmas fades into memoryland while the rush and hustle accompanying the preparation for the looming year's end takes over ... It's grey outside and the cold drizzle seems to seep into the bones and my mind keeps playing 'Streets of Philadelphia' by Bruce Springsteen ~ oh, well, just one of those days ...

Streets of Philadelphia

I was bruised and battered, I couldn't tell what I felt.
I was unrecognizable to myself.
Saw my reflection in a window and didn't know my own face.
